The Skull Key is a key item in Castlevania: Harmony of Dissonance. It allows Juste Belmont to open doors marked with a skull design.
Description
The Skull Key allows Juste Belmont to unlock two special doors that feature the effigy of a demonic skull. He will likely have come across these doors early through his adventure; one in the Marble Corridor of Castle A, behind the first Victory Armor, and the other in The Wailing Way, also in Castle A, behind the first Lizard Man. Basically, what this key does is to keep separated the east wing from the west wing of the castle(s) for most of the game.
However, the Skull Key is found very late in the game, in the Luminous Cavern of Castle A (which is visited much later than its counterpart location in Castle B), beyond the room with the Hammer-Hammer (found shortly after defeating the Golem boss). Additionally, to reach the room that contains the key, the player will first be required to have acquired the Griffin's Wing (found after defeating Death further into this area), as to reach it, they'll need to ascend through a long passageway located high above.
Obtaining the Skull Key isn't mandatory to complete the game, though, as the two doors it unlocks only serve as shortcuts that connect the Castle Treasury with the Marble Corridor and The Wailing Way, both which can also be accessed through alternate paths. However, it is advisable to acquire the key anyway, as the shortcuts it unlocks are quite useful.
Notes
- It is only necessary to unlock each of the two doors only once, as once they have been unlocked, their counterparts in the other castle will be automatically unlocked, too.

Trivia
- The Skull Key was intended to reappear in Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow, but the idea was eventually discarded. However, although not obvious, there still are a few skull marked doors in the game, one in the Top Floor and one in the Castle Corridor. While the door in the Top Floor would prove inconsequential, as it leads to an already accessible room, the Castle Corridor door would lead outside the castle. The item is still obtainable using cheating devices.
