Talos is an enemy in the Castlevania series. He is a gigantic armor that fights with his very long arms. He first appeared as a miniboss in Castlevania: Bloodlines and later as a boss in Castlevania: Harmony of Dissonance, where he stood even high above other giant armors.
Origins
In Greek mythology, Talos was a gigantic man of bronze made by Hephaestus, who protected the island of Crete from intruders. His only weakness was that he had a single vein in his body, running from head to ankle, and at the ankle it was plugged only by a single nail. When Jason and the Argonauts had to face Talos, Medea hypnotized him into removing his own nail, causing the bronze giant to bleed to death.
Thematically, Talos is an invincible warrior whose only weakness is in his ankle, similar to Achilles and his heel, although in this case it may simply be a matter of practicality, as Talos was so huge that a human being could not reach above his ankle.
Appearances
Castlevania: Bloodlines
Talos is a palette swap of the Heavy Armor and Great Axe Armor (the largest armors in the game). He acts as the first midboss of Stage 5, Versailles Palace (the other being the Silhouette Demon). Rather than being armed with a morning star or a great axe, his only weapons are his fists, which he uses to punch down and forward. This version of Talos is agile and able to jump across the screen; once he has done this, he will perform his special attack, where he sends his fist flying a long distance forward and is able of covering the entire length of the room. The fist is attached to a retractile chain extension hidden inside his arm that quickly takes it back to its owner. If the fist makes contact with the player, it will grab them and pull them toward Talos in a brief choking attack that deals greater damage. To avoid it, just stand right in front Talos to make the fist go flying above and miss.

Castlevania: Harmony of Dissonance
Talos first appears at the beginning of the game, at the Entrance, being the very first enemy Juste Belmont comes across in his journey. At first, Talos is encountered in the form of a seemingly harmless pile of rubble, although once Juste makes it to the other side, he will take his real form –a gigantic knight clad in heavy armor– and start chasing after him (in a similar manner to the Behemoth from Rondo of Blood). His armor is incredibly tough, rendering him completely impervious to harm. Once Juste has crossed and lifted the castle's drawbridge, Talos will fall down the open chasm and apparently die in a fiery explosion.
Talos is found again much later in the game, in the Luminous Cavern (Castle A), where he had been dwelling all this time after falling down the bridge. Before the fight –and in an uncommon occurrence of enemy in-fighting– he kills an appropriately named "Revenge Armor" before going after Juste. His size is so large that his head passes through the ceiling. He fights in a similar manner as other gigantic enemies from the series (like Galamoth or the Big Golem), by slowly advancing and occasionally sweeping his massive arms, bending down to "grab", or by switching his fist with a sword and then slashing it down. However, this time his armor is severely damaged (presumably from the previous fall) and has a broken spot on his left shin (in reference to the historical character's myth, which said Talos was only vulnerable on his ankle), allowing Juste to damage him and destroy him for good. Repeatedly striking at this injury will make Talos to retreat a little; this mechanic is very important, as Talos will keep advancing during the whole encounter and he may corner Juste, which due to the heavy damage Talos normally deals and the lack of invincibility frames given after being hit present in Harmony of Dissonance, can traduce in a quick death. It's also worth mentioning that even when many Spell Fusions will normally target Talos's injury, some of them will never make him retreat; so, in these cases it is advised to keep striking his shin with the whip and only cast the Spell Fusion once he starts retreating.
The Skull Key can be obtained in one of the rooms beyond Talos's boss room (although the Griffin's Wing is still required to reach it).

Trivia
- Another inspiration for Talos may have come from his depiction in the 1963 film Jason and the Argonauts.
